The term “wine bar” may seem a little pretentious to some. Vine Wine in Deer Park is definitely not that type of a place. Walk on in and find a table for your group, seats at the large granite bar or a comfy sofa by the fireplace. It doesn’t matter if you know the difference between a Bordeaux or a Rhone. And nobody will be watching to see if you swirl the wine in your glass or not.
This establishment is all about being an adults-only place to spend time with friends, or maybe to bring a good book and escape real life on your own some rainy afternoon. With beer, cider and soft drinks also on the menu, this is a place for everyone.
Vine Wine is a historic brick building
located at 33 N. Main St. at the corner of 1st Street in Deer Park. Brian and Jollene Vining partnered with their son, Chase, and his wife Micah to create a concept for the bar, which opened in October 2022.
For years, Brian and Chase had talked about starting a business. Those discussions started to take shape once Micah joined the family. Initially, the idea was to open a coffee shop.
However, Deer Park already had several coffee shops. Being long-time residents, the Vinings knew that the area was lacking a hangout just for grown-ups. They created a wine-centric bar with what Jollene aptly describes as “a coffee shop vibe.”
Being wine enthusiasts themselves, the Vinings felt it was important to highlight our world- class Washington wines in their shop. Besides working with distributors, they like to stock some of the local boutique wines, most of which are not available in grocery stores. They make it a point to visit as many of the wineries represented on their shelves as they can. And they taste every wine to learn if it is something they want to stock.
Winemakers and winery representatives are hosted several times a year to serve tastings at the bar. These are great opportunities to try different varietals to find out what your own preferences are, to ask questions and to hear the stories behind the wineries.
Vine Wine has become known for their artfully crafted and abundantly filled charcuterie boards that can be enjoyed while at the bar or pre-ordered and taken home for your next party. The food menu also offers hearty panini sandwiches, flatbreads and nibbles such as nuts and popcorn.
Listen to some of the local singers and musicians who perform on Fridays at Vine Wine. Other events include paint-and-sip evenings, wreath making, sign making and lively trivia nights.
Bingo is a crowd favorite, with one of the owners hamming it up as the caller. Brian is his name-o. The entire venue is also available for booking private functions like birthdays, showers and corporate gatherings. Reservations are recommended for events.
Toward the back of the shop is a nice variety of retail wines and bubbles in all price ranges. The majority of wines they serve and carry are grown and produced in our state and represent a large sampling of the various unique American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) that Washington is known for. Pop in for a quick bottle purchase or to peruse the selections in search of something special. Right now you may even find a bottle of the much-coveted Leonetti or an elegant cabernet from the Red Mountain AVA.
