The Feb. 11 ballot measure to construct a new Valley Early Learning Center facility in Valley School District successfully passed with 64.85% voter support, reaffirming the community’s long-standing tradition of investing in Valley schools.
On behalf of the Valley Board of Directors and staff, Superintendent Dr. Mandi Rehn extends heartfelt gratitude to the Valley community and voters for their support and investment in the early learning program, which the Washington Department of Children, Youth and Families recently designated with the highest-quality rating of Level 5.
With persistent financial planning and $2.6 million in grant awards, the district will fund two-thirds of the anticipated costs for the new facility. Adding in voter-approved funding, the district will be able to build a permanent facility with modern amenities sized for future growth. The new bond essentially replaces the school bonds set to expire in December 2025, with payment commencing in 2026 at the existing tax rate.
“We are forging ahead and pulling together a team comprised of a project manager, architect and contractor, and hope to break ground by August,” shared Superintendent Rehn.
Potential building sites around campus, including the upper area where the portables now sit, will be evaluated for the most cost-effective infrastructure, public access, and facility placement to meet program needs before starting the design process.
Valley School District looks forward to a continued partnership with the citizens of the Valley community. Thank you for supporting our children and their future education and achievements.
